As Ben Lee has said, it's time to act. What can you do?

There are many steps each one of us can take to be more in tune with the capacity of the natural world.

These are things we can do right now to travel around more efficiently, reduce the energy use in our home, change the way we eat and reduce the amount of waste we produce.

Your environmental footprint is an indication of the demand you are placing on the planet's living resources.

It is made up of many things including the food you eat, where you live, how you get around and what you buy.

Sustainability discussion and activity.

With increasing concerns regarding the effect the textile industry is having on the environment, more and more textile researchers, producers and manufacturers are looking to biodegradable and sustainable fibres as an effective way of reducing the impact textiles have on the environment. The emphasis in 'Biodegradable and Sustainable Fibres' is on textiles that are beneficial by their biodegradation and come from sustainable sources.

Question time!

What are some of the natural fibres used, produced or grown in Australia?

When we think about how much land is needed to produce these fibers,  the chemicals and other issues related to their production would you say that this process is sustainable?

What fibres do you think will be manufactured or produced in the future?

What can we do or use now that would stem the issues of sustainability with the textile industry?

Bamboo fibre is the latest trend in sustainable texiles, but is it really sustainable?
